I feel like I have to welcome back myself after this unintended blog hiatus that took place the last couple of weeks. To be honest, I didn’t realize that the post-vacation blues had been the major reason for lack of posts. After returning from my vacation on the island of Kithira, I felt relaxed, energized but not really in the mood to get back to reality. I wanted to extend summer for a few more weeks. So I planned a perfect staycation, with visits to the beach, outings for drinks and date nights. But all the good things must eventually come to an end. So I am back to my little office, sipping coffee, procrastinating and trying to write the first few words of this post.
Knowing myself and how easily I could have fallen victim to those dreadful post-vacation blues, I worked before leaving on some things to prevent dealing with them. Some failed and some worked wonders for my mood. Today I am sharing five tips to fight the post-vacation blues that worked for me and I am positively certain that they will work for you as well.
FΙVE WAYS TO FIGHT POST-VACATION BLUES
ONE. Do some prep-work.
This one is key to a smooth return to reality after a short or long vacation. I know what you are thinking, preparing for a vacation takes a lot of time, a time you probably don’t have. Try to find a few hours during your busy schedule before you leave to catch up with a few things. Clean your house and stock your fridge should be at the top of your list. There is no better feeling than returning to a clean house after a vacation and to top that off enjoying a decadent brunch the next morning. Work-related stuff and emails should be next on your list. Prolong the boring however necessary task of answering all your emails by setting an autoresponder. This will give you at least one extra day before you dive back to your inbox.
TWO. Go through your vacation photos.
As soon as you unpack your luggage and you are settled back home from your vacation, go through your vacation photos. This will give you the opportunity to relive all the great memories you created and sparkle vacation related talks that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Print your favorites, frame them and place them around your house or use them as screensavers and desktops in your mobile appliances. Every time you watch your laptop screen happy thoughts will fill your head!
THREE. Try new things at home.
While on vacation, we tend to be more adventurous and eager to try new things. Returning home from a vacation doesn’t mean that we have to go back straight to our routines. One should keep her adventurous spirit while at home with trying new things that always wanted to do but somehow life was getting in between. Try a new restaurant, go for a picnic in the park, take a long walk to a part of your neighborhood you have never been, visit a local coffee shop you had on your bucket list for a while.
FOUR. Plan your next trip.
This with no doubt is my favorite! With all the positive energy from your vacation and with the wanderlust bug asking for more traveling adventures, there isn’t a better cure for post-vacation blues other than planning your next trip. Picking your next travel destination is such a fun task that will lift instantly your spirits!
FIVE. Organize a party for friends at your house.
Returning home from a vacation doesn’t mean the party is over. You can still have a great time and escape your daily routine by organizing a party for your friends at your house. Pick a theme, invite your friends, mix cocktails and food and let the party begin. I am looking forward to my end of the summer party this weekend. My invites with Paperless Post have already been a hit and can’t wait to farewell another great summer with my friends in style.
However, I still want to hear from you! How do you make the transition back to reality after a vacation as smooth as possible? Share your tips in the comments below!
